On turning to Allah in trying times.

This is one of the most profound quotes that I’ve come across on social media, and one that has stayed with me:

“You were made by God, and for God – and until you don’t understand that, life will never make sense.”

And so when a testing trial comes out of nowhere, you might wonder ‘why’. You may look to blame someone. You may feel angry, powerless, helpless and depressed.

But if this trial took you to Allah, then you know you can do away with anger. He is Al-Wudud, the Loving One. He loves you. If you believe in Him, then you know that this, too, is from Him. He loves you, and He will never try you more than you can bear.

If this trial took you to Allah, then you know you can do away with the helplessness. He blessed you with salah and He gave you the ability to make dua. No, sir, that is not helplessness. You are taking your case up with the All-Powerful. That’s sheer power. No, sir, that’s not powerlessness.

If this trial took you to Allah, then know He is As-Salam, the Source of all Peace. The peace that you look for in the chaos comes from Him, through Him. It is the only true sanctuary. And when you realise that that sanctuary is ALWAYS there for you, unperturbed and beautiful, you know real love and real contentment.

It’s scary, I know it is. And yet the will to go on in spite of the anxiety associated with uncertainty is a sign of pure courage and faith. It’s scary, and to not let fear get the better of you in the belief that you are taken care of, is beautiful patience. He is our Wali, our Protector. And till as long as we’re holding on to Him, our boat won’t drown. It can’t.

And, so, what happens?

You, with all your faith, travel through the dark of the night. Then dawn breaks. He brings you from a place of darkness and into the light. He brought you out from chaos to stillness. He brought you out from confusion to sparkling clarity. And your travels through the dark, they made you more courageous and gave you stronger faith. They taught you patience. Your travels through the dark made you more cognizant of the One.

The ‘why’ ceases to matter, there is no point in playing the blame game, and everything makes sense in the moment.

What you feared this difficult time might do to you, take from you… blessed you with far more than you can ever imagine! Far more than you’ll ever know.

Because, turning to Him, that was the whole point, wasn’t it?

It’s why He created you 🙂
